oh wow, random idea. the two of them are best friends, one loves the other but the other fell in love with someone else. but that third person isn't who he/she thinks they are. that third person is cursed by a god and he/she wants to rescue them and the best friend goes along. as they go along the one in love with the third person starts to realize just what kind of person he/she's rescuing.
he/she doesn't realize that the one standing beside them is the one they were meant to be with.

I'm picturing Seeker as a kind, soldier. Who stops to help people in need, who maybe trusts a little too easily sometimes, but at the same time who can and has killed before. Though he doesn't like to.

Solara, for this to work, is a merchant's daughter so she is educated, or about as educated a girl and she travels the world since her father is a widower and was always especially fond of his daughter.
And I kind of like Marcellus or Emlen

And so Solara sort of grew up seeing the world but she never really knew how to settle down or act like a woman was supposed to. Didn't matter though since she had no way to have a dowery since she never got to stay in one place long enough at a time

and a wealthy one at that as a merchants daughter
So there are ports they frequent

Marcellus once lived in one of these ports with only his mother when Solara came. The men from his town had already become part of the war. Of course, they became friends but she eventually left. Very shortly after that he joined the war, not by choice. When the men fell in battle they gathered up the boys and taught them to fought. Marcellus was one such child, he wasn't just a soldier but he grew up there with sword in hand, on the battlefield. It's all he's ever seen, all he's known, bodies piled on top of bodies in endless fields and even cities or towns. Night and day that was all his life was, always surviving from one battle to the next. Even as comrades fell around him Marcellus still fought on. Yet, despite all of that he's seen it only made him kind.

When the war ended he finally was able to return home.
Except there wasn't much to return to. His mother dead and the faces were mostly unfamiliar.

or maybe he was backsassing one of the generals because he didn't want to join and threw something at the soldiers. which, whoops, makes them angry and one of them sets a wild beast on him for fun. Which Solara jumped in to kill when it was evident Marcellus wasn't going to.

He believes her to be the girl he fell in love with but obvs, she's not.

She will have some qualities of Solara which helps him to believe she could be her but there will be some major differences. like, she may not be as nice as she would lead Marcellus to believe
on their travels to save her, he'll start to see it in places they visit. and of course, will turn his eyes to Solara instead.

Ends up meeting the other girl first, thinks it's Solara and "falls in love". Then at almost 16 for him, he saves Solara when she returns to town.
