History
Canon history is over here!

As he is a silent protag, a lot of his history is left vague, for the sake of allowing the player to be as self-indulgent as they want while possibly connecting with him. On that note, my most notable pre-game headcanons are as follow:

- His birthday is the same day that he was shipped off to Tokyo (April 9th). Because I decided on it while I was feeling mean, years ago.

- Akira's father, Masato, works for a relatively high-paying company. Ever since Akira was a little boy, his father's been drilling it into his head that he'll follow in his footsteps. Akira does not want to follow in his footsteps. Whatever soul his father had was clearly taken by this company.

- His mom, Akemi, tried to get him to learn piano, but he hated it so much that he pretended to be bad at it until she figuratively tossed her hands up in the air over it. He wound up feeling so guilty over it, he joined a cooking club... right before winding up in the situation that led to him moving to Tokyo for a bit.

Last, but not least, my route decisions are:

- All dialogue options were positive/kind/lightly snarky, where possible.

- This Akira was top of his class.

- He juggled a total of four part-time jobs - not counting his time spent helping out at the cafe or the time spent as the PT leader.

- His favorite job was the flower shop (Rafflesia).

- He pointedly chose not to date anyone; he felt that dating would get in the way of being the PT leader. Plus, his time was stretched thin by having so many jobs, studying for school, social linking, and functioning as a leader.

Personality
He's the type who'll rush right on in to protect a perfect stranger.

To elaborate: he brazenly intervened when he saw a drunk man trying to force a woman into a car. This is the incident that led to him being put on probation and therefore shipped away to a new place. Being shipped away from home led to the next step in his full life change - his awakening to his Persona, due to a strong desire to protect and rebel against (what he saw as) a broken society.

Furthermore, during all of his confidant rank-up moments, it's very clear he's well-aware of the sorts of things his closest people like and dislike. When it comes to options for hanging out with each of them, they always contain the person's favorite place. When it comes to romantic options, he always thinks to himself that he should be careful with his words. This implies he's the loyal type and dedicated to whomever he chooses to be in a relationship with, as well as intuitive and well aware of the situation with people at all times.

In any case, once he declares someone else loyal and possibly a friend? The calm and composed mask can slip away, revealing he has quite a sense of humor. Especially when he's with friends, the player is allowed to give dry or lighthearted jokes as a response, and those options can be the absolute best (AKA earning the most music notes) to give to certain friends, depending. More than that, he is willing to open up about events of his past. He tells Ryuji about what had him winding up on probation - the full story and everything, even if he still refrains from going into personal feelings.

In Japan, if you're not being polite and calm and (quite frankly) rigid, at least to some degree, you're being rude. Considering there are some sassy and snarky options for him to say to even strangers, there is potential for him to be outright rude to adults and people his age, alike. So, within that calm and polite exterior, rests a person very capable of rebelling against the societal norm of remaining oh-so-polite. Fitting, all things considered.

Regardless of that, it is very, very clear that he has a strong desire to refrain from violence as a whole, at least when it'll prevent an ally from screwing their life up. To be clearer, when Ryuji Sakamoto (his first confidant / eventual best friend) starts to punch Suguru Kamoshida, Akira goes as far as using physical means to stop him - someone he isn't even that close to, at that time. This is in spite of Akira already having every reason to hate Kamoshida. But he knew about Ryuji's reputation - so, he is the type to think quickly on his feet. He kind of has to be. Still, this shows that trait has even been a part of him since the beginning, given this happens during his first month.

Although, when it comes to words against the more frustrating or volatile types, he is quick to speak his mind or brazenly stand up for something. He's shown forcefully standing up to a guy, demanding he stops speaking cruelly to Toranosuke Yoshida (someone who is trying to change the country). In spite of the man having a bad reputation, Akira never stops standing up for him and backing him during his speeches. Granted... when you consider it's just him who'd pay for lashing out, even if it was only through words, it maybe becomes a problem.

Selflessness can lead to stupidity, at least when it takes the form of one (1) Akira Kurusu. But, especially at that point, he doesn't care about his own reputation. By society's standards, he is already tainted -- a misfit, an outsider, someone who assaulted another person... Yet, he doesn't let any negative emotions from that aspect of his life stop him from fighting alongside someone else, especially when the person has some drive and strength of their own.

Another notable social skill that Akira carries within him is his acting skills. They're so impressive that they apparently aided in Goro Akechi never finding out that he and his team knew about "Operation Staged Suicide." The guy was able to keep a straight face and continue a normal interaction going with his would-be-"murderer". Granted... this is where some of his cruelest dialogue options become a possibility, showing there is potential for him to be an ass when he knows his life is in danger.

The above is all his "real life" self, however; there is a side of him that is practically the opposite of what he shows to regular society. His brave and bold side that surfaces immensely when he takes on his alter-ego: Joker, the leader of the Phantom Thieves. It's in this form, he is willing to jump through a pane of glass, all the while taunting a bunch of (actual... real life) police officers that were brought into the Metaverse. Furthermore, he can let his sadistic side shine - against Shadows, at least. For example, a "Hold Up!" allows him to demand money or items of Shadows (while keeping them at gunpoint), and then he could turn around and make them beg more... only to still kill them in the end? Pretty brutal stuff, altogether, especially when you consider how ruthless the All-Out Attack can get.

It's this side of him that has him shining as a leader, and it's this side that was the reason he was doing those theatrical stunts, right where the officers could see.

So, he is, without a doubt, pretty damn intelligent... until he's not. In spite of book smarts and analytical skills, he doesn't hesitate to rush into danger (when it's primarily him at risk). Basically, he's so stubborn about protecting people, that nothing in the world could stop him from doing everything to push forward.
Original Abilities
I've already typed a huge post on this to save time and make things more organized. The only thing that isn't accurate to this canonpoint is the Personas, which I'm listing here.
Arsene: weak to ice element, weak to anything holy, strong against darkness

This one is special in that this is the Persona he naturally Awakened to - this one closely represents his spirit of Rebellion and analyzing this Persona could potentially give insight to his beliefs and true nature.

It doesn't boost any particular stat but it grants him these abilities:

Adverse Resolve; increase how easily/often he can do enough damage to knock an enemy stupid
Eiha; a small amount of darkness-based magical damage to one enemy
Cleave; a small amount of physical damage to one enemy
Sukunda; decrease the agility of an enemy for a short while
Dream Needle; a small amount of physical damage to an enemy that comes with a decent chance of putting them to sleep

The Personas from here down are the ones he obtained through defeating their Shadow and/or making deals with them ("join my cause and I'll let you live through me, rather than be destroyed, here and now", basically).
Kikuri-Hime: weak to fire element attacks, nullifies any wind element attacks, makes it easier to endure anything that'd be considered holy

It's great for improving agility and grants him these abilities:

Mediarama; heal physical injuries for the full group
Energy Drop; remove Confuse/Fear/Despair/Brainwash/Rage from one person
Patra; remove Dizzy/Forget/Sleep/Hunger from one person
Makarakarn; put a shield around one person that sends one (1) magical attack back at the caster, ensuring no damage to the protected individual

Ose: strong against fire element attacks, weak against anything considered holy, nullifies anything darkness-based

It's great for improving physical strength and grants him these abilities:

Counterstrike; small chance of reflecting a physical attack from an ally to the attacker
Oni-Kagura; a fairly strong physical attack on all foes that has a small chance of sending the enemies into what's commonly known as a "Berserker" mindset - in this case, however, their defenses would become lowered while their strength increases
Charge; the next physical attack will deal 250% more damage than it normally would
Reverse Rub; comrade is entering that earlier mentioned "Berserker" mindset with the increased strength and lowered defense

Queen Mab: nullifies all fire element attacks, increases endurance for handling anything electrical, adds weakness to anything wind-based

This one gives an insane boost to magic skills and grants him these abilities:
Mazionga; decent amounts of electrical damage to all foes and can rarely inflict Shock status (makes it impossible to move/attack for a while)
Agidyne; deals heavy fire damage to an enemy and can rarely inflict Burn (are damaged after every action)
Concentrate; next magical attack will deal 250% more damage than it normally would
Burn Boost; makes it easier than it otherwise would be to inflict the Burn ailment with Agidyne

Unicorn: nullifies any ice element attacks, strong against psychic attacks, nullifies anything holy, weak against anything dark

This one gives an insane boost to physical strength and grants him this ability:

Assault Dive; deals heavy physical damage to a single enemy

Kushinada-Hime: weak against nuclear-based attacks, repels anything holy

This one doesn't give a significant boost to any particular area, but does give some abilities:

Mabufula; some decent ice damage to all the enemies and has a rare chance of causing Freeze (which, naturally, makes movement/attacks impossible for a bit)
Matarukaja; boosts all allies' attack power for a short while
Wind Wall; basically makes it so anyone weak to wind attacks won't get knocked onto their ass from getting hit by one; it also decreases any damage taken from wind attacks for a short while

Rangda: repels all physical/gun attacks, nullifies fire-based attacks, weak to electricity-based attacks, weak to holy attacks, nullifies darkness-based attacks

This one gives a decent boost to magical attacks as well as these abilities:

Eigaon; Heavy Curse damage to 1 foe.
Swift Strike; Light Physical damage to all foes 3x to 4x.

Kumbhanda: nullifies fire-based attacks, weak to ice-based attacks, strong against darkness-based attacks

This one gives an okay boost to physical attacks as well as this ability:

Wage War; Medium chance of inflicting Rage to all foes

Norn: strong against ice-based attacks, drains any wind spells

This one gives the best boost to magic skills as well as these abilities:

Garudyne; Heavy Wind damage to 1 foe. Technical dmg: Burn.
Ziodyne; Heavy Electric damage to 1 foe. Rare chance of Shock.
Diarahan; Fully restore HP of 1 ally.

Valkyrie: helps him take a bullet much better than he would and nullifies anything holy

This one gives a pretty solid strength boost as well as these abilities:

Mind Slice; Medium Physical damage to all foes. Low chance of Confuse.
Counterstrike; 15% chance of reflecting a physical attack.
Dodge Phys; Double evasion chance against Physical attacks.

Ganesha: strong against physical attacks, drains wind-based attacks, weak against psychic attacks

This one grants a major strength boost as well as these abilities:

Rebellion; Increase 1 ally's critical rate for 3 turns.
Giant Slice; Medium Physical damage to 1 foe.
Miracle Punch; Medium Physical damage to 1 foe, high critical rate.
Dodge Elec; Double evasion chance against Electric attacks.
