what if the world was at war. and had been for a long while.

but recently the ruler of one side had passed away and the successor has decided to put an end to the war. so the two sides have been negotiating.

so the war is in this tentative limbo state where the smallest thing could respark the fighting

and of course there's animosity between the two sides - especially between those who'd been fighting for such a long time. the older generations don't believe that a treaty would hold up.

while the younger generations are more open to it. so it causes strife even within the same country/kingdom/whatever

even though one is against the treaty, they could be completely devoted to their king/leader so they go along with what they want. Yes, foiling a plot by a group who are trying to assassinate the leaders as --

a way to restart the war. and they intend to blame it on the other kingdom

to make him stop fighting, big and calm kisses him. and not just a little peck either

tiny and angry sputters and hisses and claws at him and then decides fuck it and starts kissing back and then slumps sulkily in big and calm's arms

big and calm doesn't let anyone else attempt to carry tiny and angry. he insists on carrying him all the way to where he can put him down so the healers can look at him

doesn't argue with that... but doesn't carry him back to the base - takes him to his place

well, okay, tiny and angry deems that acceptable, too, as long as he gets somewhere to sit down and nurse all his bruises.

big and calm moves to kneel in front of him, gently touches his face, says "I love you" before leaning in to kiss him so that tiny and angry doesn't feel pressured to say it back right away

tiny and angry kisses back, leans into the kiss, lets just a little bit of yearning slip into it, until he's climbing right onto big and calm's lap

and then he leans back, eyes big and calm, and says, grudgingly, "i love you, too. but I'm not saying it again, so don't make a big deal about it."

and that is how, when they went back into work the next day, everyone sees these huge bruises on tiny and angry and are like WOW THEY REALLY GOT YOU HUH and tiny and angry is like yep. that's what happened

at least it's a nice show when it's the bad guys, and the marks Dyrin leaves on Zaris last for days, which means Dyrin sees them and gets distracted touching them

Zaris does like watching him beat on the bad guys and distracting Dyrin, so this is good
