How do characters arrive?
No matter what you may be doing, time seems to freeze all of a sudden and in a swirl of smoke, a rather scruffy and huffy looking owl appears with a scroll in his talons inviting you to Iyashikei.

Once you take the scroll from the owl, he disappears in a shimmer of glitter and smoke, but not before the owl mutters something about this being a waste of his time and good-for-nothing-wizards sending him on errands. Did he just speak? Must have been your imagination, it doesn't matter, you can't check because the ornery bird is gone.

Opening the scroll, inside will explain the goals of the council and how you will be helping the greater good. If you are ready to come, all you need to do is say some form of agreement. The same swirl of smoke that took the owl will now take you to Iyashikei.

The thing is, the scroll can't really understand tone, so even a sarcastic "yeah, right?!" will be taken as verbal consent to participate. However, should your character decline, time will unfreeze and the scroll will disappear, the memory of the owl and the scroll seemingly gone from your mind entirely.

Welcome to Iyashikei
After agreeing to the contract, characters arrive in the City Hall Main Chamber. You might feel a bit wobbly, feel free to have a seat. If your character is gravely injured, a welcome committee member will have a medical staff (an available job to any playable characters) fix them right up. If that is not necessary, the member of the welcome committee (also something characters can absolutely have as a job) will explain what happens next.

If you agreed by mistake, the welcome committee is happy to help you fill out the paperwork to go back home. Though, they warn, it takes at least a month to be fulfilled... if it even gets there!

But, if you are here by choice housing (link) and education (link) is free, but food and clothes are not. The council has provided you with a small amount to get you started, but after that, you will need to find some way to pay for things.

As time was frozen when they sent the message to you, there was no way to pack anything. So whatever clothes and items you had on you when the owl appeared is what you have you upon arrival. Things like cars, motorcycles, and other large machines, nor animal companions could not make the trip with you.

Who can I apply for?
Characters as young as 6 from any canon can be applied for. Additionally, OC characters are more than welcome. Iyashikei allows for multiples of a character provided they are either naturally within canon (multiple Doctors existing at one time), or their canons are different enough: Maleficent from the live action movies, Maleficent from the animated film, and Maleficent from Once Upon a Time could arguably all be in the game at the same time. Iyashikei also allows for doubles if a canon has significantly different alternate endings.

Characters who are dead in canon are also more than welcome.

We ask that there be awareness on the players' part, while morally gray characters and villains are welcome to this game, ICly, the council will not allow for there to be a takeover or undermining the city, if you have a character arc in mind, then by all means please apply.

How many characters can I play?
At this time, a player can play up to four characters. Additional slots can be earned from the in-game reward system. Players are allowed to apply for two characters at a time.

Will my character still have their powers?
Short answer is: yes, and there is no power nerfing.

Longer answer is: yes, but we ask that you respect the setting of the game and any game-breaking powers be used appropriately, and if you would like to do something big with those powers, please discuss it with the mods first.

Additionally, any powers such as telepathy, mind control, and any other powers involving someone else's characters MUST have a permissions post.

Speaking of powers, I play a character with phenomenal cosmic powers!
1. Welcome to your itty-bitty living space.
2. No matter how powerful a character is within any canon, the council, when working together (and they're almost always working together) is more powerful. If needed, they can fix anything should something happen.

What does the Activity Check look like?
There is only a check-in to make sure you want to stick around with us.

Is sexual content and other mature content allowed?
Yes, but please label all content appropriately with the correct warnings regarding sexual or other mature content. As such themes are allowed in game, all players must be 18+ to apply to Iyashikei.

Gameplay
In-game reward system?
Yes! In-game rewards can be earned through in game interactions as well as game-wide event quests given by the council and NPCs. Further will be explained on the rewards page.

Quests? I thought this was a Slice of Life game?
You are correct. These aren't grand quests like finding the long lost princess kidnapped by a witch. As the council said, small acts of kindness are the key.

Sometimes quests might be helping an NPC find their lost cat, a temporary fill-in for the brand new coffee shop that is understaffed, helping run a booth at the festival, and other quests of that nature.

There will be a monthly quest board that characters can fulfill at any time during the month. Characters in game can ALSO put in a quest if they should feel the need to.

What is the world's idea of currency?
Iyashikei's currency is called Stardust, Stardust is earned through several means: Quests, acts of kindness, a character getting a standard job, or attending school!

Where is Stardust collected?
On your skin! Stardust leaves a shimmer or soft glowing residue. For some, it appears as glitter, for some it looks like bioluminescence. The more a characters accumulates without spending it, the more glittery or glowy a character gets! Some might even become their own nightlight.

What can you buy with Stardust?
Stardust can be used for purchasing food, clothing, tools, and whatever else you may need. It also can be used to bring items from home to Iyashikei.

The character I'm playing may make some questionable decisions/actions. What would happen if they do?
For minor offences: theft, fights, vandalism, your character would be given mandatory community service. These may range from working in a soup kitchen, picking up trash in the local parks, painting or power washing the sides of buildings, etc.

The council endeavors to have the punishment be restorative to the community and tend to fit the crime. If you want to get creative with it, by all means!

As for more serious crimes?
1. Any and all player/player plots must be agreed upon by all players.

2. Any player/NPC plots involving something serious would ultimately have the council stepping in. This may result in a character potentially being stripped of their powers/weapons.

And, depending on the severity, IC actions have IC consequences and the council potentially would banish the character from Iyashikei (this does not mean YOU are banned, but the game does request awareness regarding character choices). If you are not sure, by all means, come talk to us! (UNDER CONSTRUCTION!)

What does the world's calendar look like?
Iyashikei runs on a 1:1 system. Every OOC day for you equals a single IC day for your character.

Do characters age?
Physically, no, because time was "stopped" when they got the scroll. They will return home just as they were brought in.

After arriving you will be handed your Glimmer. The Council debated about magic mirrors, owls, pigeons, combadges, holo-phones, and everything in between but before anyone could really decide, one of the younger scientists put the Glimmer in front of everyone and it was a settled issue. The Glimmer can do private and public text, audio, and video calls. It can be linked up to computers, televisions, and laptops. It has access to all sorts of video games and music, and has all other basic functions one would find on an advance phone like calendar applications, weather app, calculator, alarm clocks, etc. Glimmers can be customized inside and out to best suit the needs and aesthetics of its owner. Though no one quite knows how it creates a mental link besides the scientists on the council.

Should a character lose it, if the mental link function is turned on, the character need only think about it and a literal "hot" or "cold" feeling on their palms will guide them to it. If it's off, however... well, maybe put out a Quest request? Someone is sure to have seen it and turned it in to City Hall.

With Glimmer, you get immediate access to StarLink, the most popular app on Glimmer and in Iyashikei in general. StarLink is used by everyone in the city. Glimmers have as much magic as they do technology wrapped up in their making, thus making them, as far as anyone has tried, unhackable.

Is there a language barrier?
There is not, no. The same magic that brought you here has switched your language to the native tongue of Iyashikei. This magic allows everyone to understand everything else. However, it's not the most advanced spell, so a character could actively choose to speak and write in their native language with just a small bit of effort.

My character does not or cannot speak, how can they communicate?
Fret not! The Glimmer has a text to speech function. A character need only write or think the message they want to convey and it will be transmitted to other devices or out loud.

Wait, think?
Yes! Thanks to some of the scientists on the council, there is a mental connection between your character and their device should they so need that function! It does need to be actively opted into on the device. Once the function is turned on, they need only think of what they want to write and actively think of the word "send" or "enter." Otherwise, this function stays off on a character's device...though, every once and a while it turns itself on with system updates. This, of course, has led to some more... interesting or intrusive texts being sent out, but it's easy enough to turn back off.
